obama's Noble peace prize and living in a racist country

I was shocked to hear that President Obama won the Noble Prize for Peace but happy about it. I am deeply saddened by the state of my country these days. The level of racial hatred amazes me. This is 2009 but many people still think this is the Pre Civil War era. There are people in power who use this racial tension to try to regain the power over the population they feel they lost when Obama became President.
Turning one ethnic/racial group against another to distract the general population from the real issues within a society is not a new tactic. Hitler did it...when he blamed the economic problems in Germany on a minority group. It was the same tactic used in Rwanda when the dominant tribal group Hutu's called for the execution of the minority group the Tutsi. By blaming the country's problems on this minority group the ruling group was able to convince neighbors, co-workers and everyday members of Rwandan society to take to the streets and brutally murder over 1 million Rwandans in less than 100 days.
Now many misinformed United States citizens are being told by hate mongers such as Rush Limbaugh and Lou "i hate immigrants" Dobbs that the current depressed state of the union rest solely on the shoulders of poor latin American immigrants and our new bi-racial President with his "horrible" message of hope. I read the posts on the internet that say the most racially hateful things and wonder how people that claim to be Christian, educated, moral, and full of a love of freedom can spew such vicious words of hatred.
I laugh when I read that ENGLISH is the first language of AMERICA. Wrong. I am amazed when people with obvious European names call for " those illegals" to go back home where they came from..." I shake my head with disbelief when hate mongers like Lou Dobbs blame all the current loss of jobs on immigrants....and for some reason he has a particular dislike for immigrants from Latin America.
Important news flash...... if you are not a NATIVE AMERICAN.....Lou Dobbs and Rush Limbaugh would like you to pack your bags and go back to where you came from. Bad news for those of you headed to Europe.....they don't really like immigrants too much there or American's either so good luck finding a home, job or getting a permanent visa. If you are heading to Amsterdam.... Hope you speak Dutch.....because there is NO SPEAKING ENGLISH THERE........
I guess you folks weren't listening in History class when the teacher was speaking about the Native Americans and the SPANISH SPEAKING men who stepped onto the shores of a NEW Land. Yes that's right it was the Spanish who came to the North American continent and FORCED their language and customs on the Native people who actually had their own lives, cultures, and languages. SO it was NOT ENGLISH that was originally spoken here in North America.....it was one of hundreds perhaps thousands of languages that were spoken by the different tribes that had occupied this NEW land.

Now before I close I have to add a little on the current state of unemployment and who is to blame. I do not believe illegal immigrants are to blame for the millions of American citizens who are currently out of work. IT is a combination of things. Greedy corporations who fleeced our country have the dirty hands. They bought up many family farms turning them into corporate farms. As large corporations took over small businesses they took jobs with them.
Many companies hire immigrants because American workers do not want the jobs they need to fill. I know because my husband and I work in an industry that struggles to find qualified US workers. There is a whole generation of workers who are really not prepared or motivated to do hard labor and unpleasant jobs. Many workers from other countries are motivated to work out of desperation. They have had to work to support families because there is NO WORK in the countries where they come from. Most US citizens do not know about our own country's culpability in the destruction of other cultures and traditional lifestyles.

I know that there are some people that are so afraid of change that they will do anything to keep it from coming. They will call for a President to fail even though it should be their place as members of the government elected by the people to support this President ELECTED BY THE PEOPLE. They will cheer when he loses a bid to bring jobs to one area of the country even though they claim to be AMERICANS....who only want what is best for their country.
I am the grandmother of two grandchildren who are bi-racial. Their fathers are from Zambi and Kenya. I am married to an immigrant who came to this country from Guatemala.
He is a true AMERICAN. He is a Mayan Indian and his ancestors have lived on the continent of the AMERICAS (note to Lou Dobbs types.."America"....SPANISH word...) long before any Spanish, French, English or in my case Irish settlers stepped on this soil. He speaks Spanish instead of CHORTI because it was forced on his ancestors. He works in North America and not Central America because for over a hundred years this UNITED STATES , it's wealthy corporations, it's military, it's former Presidents and politicians have exploited the Guatemalan people, land and government.
Learn about the world. Travel and understand. Read. Start with a nice little book called; "Bitter Fruit, The Untold Story Of The American Coup In Guatemala."
